Video of Belagavi civic body members dancing to Pakistan’s national anthem proven to be fake

A video released by Belagavi BJP leaders alleging that some Congress members in the city corporation had danced to the tunes of the Pakistan’s national anthem during the Eid Milad Un Nabi celebrations in Belagavi on Saturday, was proved to be fake.

Raju Topannanavar, BJP city unit general secretary, had called a press meet to give evidence that some BCC members were anti-national and had pro-Pakistani feelings.

He showed a video clip on his mobile phone where three members of the BCC M. Muzamil, M. Azeem and M. Nazeem were dancing to the tunes of the Pakistani national anthem.

He also transferred the video to the phones of some TV channel reporters, who ran the news.

However, within minutes Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarnath Reddy clarified that the video was an old clip of a procession, filmed two years ago. He said that he and other officials were present on duty at the procession and that no such thing had happened.

“It was uploaded on Youtube by some amateur videographers,” he said. He also suspected that the video had been doctored after downloading it from the Internet and sound tracks were added to the images. A detailed investigation would reveal the facts, he said. He warned that such acts of disturbing peace by attempting to divide communities could attract severe punishment under the law.
