Jagadguru Sarangdhara Desikendra Swami of Saranga Mutt in Srisailam came down heavily on a few organisations and accused them of creating confusion in the minds of the people about the rally to be held seeking religion tag for Lingayat.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the swamiji refrained from mentioning any names but said that some people were creating confusion about the Lingayat rally in Kalaburagi on Sunday.

Vested interests were appealing to people not to participate in the rally organised by Lingayat organisations seeking religion status, he said.

To a question, the swamiji said that “We are clear about the differences between the terms Lingayat and Veerashaivas.” Lingayats are those who follow the ideologies of the 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara, where as the Veerashaiva believes in the Vedas and rituals. Veerashaiva is one among the 99 sub-divisions of Lingayat, he added.

Over five lakh people are expected to converge at the Nutan Vidyalaya College Ground in city on Sunday for the rally. People from across the State and also neighbouring States are expected to join the ally .

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Krantikari) and the Manava Bandhutva Vedike also expressed solidarity with the rally.
