In two unrelated cases, the Vemagal police have exhumed two bodies to repeat post-mortem examinations after they received complaints of foul play in their unnatural deaths.

The bodies were exhumed on Wednesday in the presence of taluk magistrate and tahasildar Range

Gowda, Sub-Inspector Yashwanth told The Hindu on Friday. Doctors of R.L Jalappa Hospital conducted the post-mortem examinations.

In one case, the body of Shilpa, 21, was found hanging at Vemagal village on August 29, 2014. Her family reportedly performed her last rites in a hurry at midnight on the eve of Ganesha Chaturthi.

An anonymous letter written to the Superintendent of Police raised suspicion about Shilpa’s death.

In the second case, Narayanaswamy, a 48-year-old farmer of Seethi village who had married twice, allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his residence on January 18 this year. Later, the children of the first wife lodged a complaint against the family of the second wife.
