Vedike urges police to ensure security during Samajotsava

March 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Udupi:

The district unit of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike has urged the district police to take immediate precautionary measures in the light of the Hindu Samajotsava being organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal here on March 9.

In a release issued here, the Vedike said there was a possibility of peace and order getting disturbed in the district due to the Samajotsava. The organisers had said that VHP leader Praveen Togadia would be participating. Mr. Togadia was known for vitriolic speeches that had the potential to disturb peace.

He should not be allowed to participate in the function, the Vedike said. The police should not allow his speech to be broadcast either through audio or video, they said.

There was a possibility of mass attacks on people or places of worship belonging to other religions after the Samajotsava concluded, the release said. The police should take all security measures to protect the lives, properties and places of worship of people belonging to other religions. The police should direct the organisers to wind up the Samajotsava by 5 p.m.

Stern action should be taken against those shouting inflammatory slogans, putting up vicious banners and making insulting remarks, the release said.
