Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha president Vatal Nagaraj is set to organise Rajyotsava celebrations for the record 52nd year at the Nrupatunga Mantapa near Mysore Bank Circle here on Friday.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Nagaraj said that he had launched the Rajyotsava celebrations even before the State was re-organised.

This time, the celebrations will go on for a year and would be marked by a campaign in different parts of the State for the development of Kannada language, literature and people, he said. The celebrations would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Mr. Nagaraj would launch the campaign in Bidar in December for the development of North Karnataka region and Kodagu.

He urged the government to confer the Karnataka Ratna award on the Kasargod-based Kannada poet Kayyara Kinhanna Rai who will soon turn 100.

He said that the Central College ground here where the State’s re-organisation was announced should be renamed “Karnataka ekikarana (unification) Ground”.
