Kolar District Congress Committee (DCC) has taken objection to attempts by Varthur Prakash, who has been re-elected to the Legislative Assembly from Kolar as an Independent, to appease Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Several hoardings put up in the town eulogising Mr. Siddaramaiah on his becoming the Chief Minister have photos of both the Congress leader as well as Mr. Prakash.
Memorandum
A delegation of Congress functionaries, led by DCC president M.L. Anilkumar submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police Ram Nivas Sepat on Tuesday urging him to get the hoardings put up by Mr. Prakash and his supporters removed. The delegation demanded action against Mr. Prakash for “unauthorised” use of Mr. Siddaramaiah’s photo in the hoardings.
“As Mr. Prakash is an Independent and has worked against the interests of the Congress in the region, it is unethical to use pictures of our leaders in the hoardings put up by him,” Mr. Anilkumar said.
Mr. Prakash had rebelled against the Congress to contest the 2008 Assembly elections as an Independent. Even after lending support to the BJP government and becoming a Minister, Mr. Prakash had maintained that Mr. Siddaramaiah is his leader.
Political observers see Mr. Prakash’s recent move as an attempt to appease Mr. Siddaramaiah and reap political gains. Mr. Prakash, however, has not made public his plans to join any political party.
