‘Vachanas relevant for all generations to come’

The ideologies of social justice preached in the Vachanas of Basaveshwara were still relevant to society, Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil has said. Inaugurating the 884th birth anniversary of Basaveshwara here on Saturday, Dr. Patil said that the Vachanas of Basaveshwara and his contemporary social reformers in the 12th century have been incorporated in the Constitution and they would be relevant for all generations to come.

“Basaveshwara’s concept of equality and humanity among all is accepted globally,” A.B. Maalakaraddi, MLA, has said.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Jagajyothi Sri Basaveshwara Jayantyotsava 2017 programme jointly organised by the district administration, Kannada and Culture Department, City Municipal Council and Basaveshwar Jayantyotsava Samiti at the Veershaiva Kalyan Mantap in Yadgir on Saturday.

The struggle by Jagajyothi Basaveshwara against social imbalance, caste system and inequality among people from the lower and higher castes in the 12th century was historical and he tried to create social awareness through meaningful Vachanas, Shiavraj Patil, MLA, has said. He was speaking after inaugurating the Jagajyothi Sri Basaveshwara Jayantyotsava 2017 programme in Raichur on Saturday.
