The district administration will revive Vachana Sanchaya, the Vachana digitisation project that has suffered some delays.
At a recent meeting, Deputy Commissioner H.R. Mahadev assured a delegation of Kannada Sahitya Parishat office-bearers that the project will be completed and expanded.
The data management project serves as an important research tool for Vachana literature produced by the saint poets of the 12th century.
Though in-principle approval was given to the project in October 2014, officers in Bidar did not move ahead with the project. Some officers did not fully understand what the project is all about. Some thought it was a website, while others thought it was akin to a repository of Vachana literature. That caused the delay, according to Basavaraj Ballur, parishat district secretary.
Prof. Ballur and others, however, prepared a note to differentiate between other Vachana-based websites and mobile applications and Vachana Sanchaya. “We have appealed to district in-charge minister Eshwar Khandre to launch the project soon,” said Suresh Channashetty, parishat district president.
