Creativity and innovative thinking of students came to the fore at the annual Udupi District Science and Technology Fair-cum-Competition titled ‘BrainQuest 2015’ organised by E-Skool here on Saturday.

The models prepared by students dealt with topics ranging from healthcare to checking crude oil spillage. They appeared to have thought of all the contemporary issues connected to science, including renewable energy and scientific methods of garbage disposal, among others.

The students of the Green Park Central School, Hiriyadka, had prepared a model ‘Probiotics’. It showed benefits of consumption of probiotics. Explaining the model, Shradha, a student of Class 10 of the school, said people who consumed a lot of junk food could take items with probiotics such as yoghurt, coconut, honey and mint to neutralise some of the effects of junk food, she said. The model constructed by the students by the students V.K.R. Acharya Memorial School, Kunjal, dealt with checking the negative effects of crude oil spillage in the sea. They had constructed a device that helped suck the spilled crude oil and re-use it.

Students of Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar, had prepared a model called ‘Eco-friendly dustbin’. It had been made of biodegradable materials. It had two sections – one for non-biodegradable materials and another for biodegradable materials.
