Union govt. urged to launch ‘Digital India’ in State

The Union government should select Karnataka to launch its ambitious ‘Digital India’ programme, Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology S.R. Patil.

He was here on Monday to inaugurate a private IT firm. Mr. Patil said Karnataka, which was in the forefront in the IT sector, had the infrastructure to launch this programme. The State government would extend all cooperation. Parliamentarians from the State should pressure the Union government, Mr. Patil said.

Project

Later, he told presspersons that the government would soon start a project to provide the wi-fi services in all districts.

Three wi-fi hotspots would be created in each districts.

Meeting on IIIT

The first meeting of the governing council of the IIIT would be held in New Delhi on April 23.

The government had sanctioned 61 acres for this purpose at Tadasinakoppa near here.

Arrangements would be made to open a temporary campus at the IT Park here.
