Former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachaliah has said that unethical science can prove disastrous for humankind.
He was delivering the 5th annual convocation address at Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research (SDUAHER) at Tamaka here on Friday.
Mr. Venkatachaliah counselled medical graduates not to be too eager for money. “Medical profession is a noble profession to serve humanity,” he said and called upon doctors to serve patients with more compassion.
Speaking at length on the developments in the fields of science and technology, Mr. Venkatachaliah said, “The field of medicine today is not only prescriptive, it is also predictive.”
The speed of change is mind-boggling and sky is the limit for the future possibilities in medicine, he said. He also underlined the need for convergence of various branches of knowledge so that humankind can be benefitted.
“Don’t forget parents who made your dream come true and whose debt you can never adequately repay,” he said.
Mr. Venkatachaliah conferred Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) to Chennai-based diabetologist V. Mohan.
The former MP R.L. Jalappa, Chancellor Rajesh N. Jagadale, Vice-Chancellor P.F. Kotur, Registrar A.V.M. Kutty, Controller of Examinations D.V.L.N. Prasad and M.B. Sanikop were present.
