Unaccounted cash of Rs. 8 lakh was seized at Hosa Tegur village near Dharwad on Monday. It was found during a routine check at the check-post set up in the wake of poll code for the zilla and panchayat elections.

The police have seized the car, which belongs to Neelakanth Shivashankar Kudachimath, a native of Basavana Kudachi near Belagavi. Garag Police Sub-Inspector Murughesh Channannavar told The Hindu that Neelakanth identified himself as a real estate developer and said he was going to Hubballi for a personal work.

However he was not able to produce any documents regarding the money he was carrying and reportedly told the police that the amount was towards advance for a site deal. “However he did not produce any documents in support of his claim. As the model code of conduct is in force, we seized the cash and the car and have registered a case”, he said. The poll code enforcement officer M.V. Gomade and others were at the spot when the vehicle was intercepted.
