Unable to repay loan, farmer commits suicide

A farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming Datura seeds in his house at Thirthahalli in Sira taluk in the district on Monday night.

The police said that the deceased is identified as Sanjeevappa (62) of Thirthahalli had taken loan of Rs. 70,000 from private money lenders and Rs. 50,000 from Kalpataru Grameena Bank in Doddahulikunte in Sira taluk. They suspect that inability to repay the loans might have led him to commit suicide.

A case has been registered in Pattanayakanahalli police station.
