British Deputy High Commissioner at Bengaluru, Dominic McAllister, has said that he is keen to learn about the education system in this region and “find out how we can work in the area of education with Karnataka.”
After visiting Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru city and meeting the seer, Dr. Shivakumara Swami, on Monday, he said that he is on a four-day tour of Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Hassan and Dakshina Kannada districts. He would meet deputy commissioners of the districts, tahsildars, heads of British companies, entrepreneurs, and heads of educational institutions in this region. “We would be interested to work with the alumni of educational institutions which come under Siddaganga Mutt to strengthen ties with U.K. and Karnataka.”
Scholarships will be given to those who are interested to study in the U.K. which will also help to strengthen links in the field of education. They would help to develop leadership skills, policy making skills, technical skills and skills for those who work in justice departments.
Mr. Dominic McAllister said that this is a year of culture which will help to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. The British Council will be organising a range of activities as part of the culture year in the fields of music, dance, design, and handicrafts. A lot of interesting work is being done in the field of design and they develop links between design colleges in U.K. and in India.
