A multilingual website of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was launched on Friday to help it reach out to a larger audience on issues related to Aadhaar.
The website, >www.uidai.gov.in , will now appear in five regional languages Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi and Tamil, in addition to Hindi and English. Nandan Nilekani, UIDAI Chairman, launched the multi-lingual website from the UIDAI Tech Centre here.
“The UIDAI is planning to systematically add additional language micro-sites to facilitate ease of access to all sections of society,” said a press release from the authority. The second phase of the launch will include micro-sites in Assamese, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi and Telugu, it added.
Aadhaar cards are now printed in 13 languages, and residents can update data in these languages. Over 35 crore Aadhaar cards have been despatched across the country. The UIDAI, which has a mandate to enrol 60 crore residents for Aadhaar by 2014, has generated around 42.5 crore cards.
