Krishna Jayanti was celebrated with pomp and gaiety here on Wednesday as a large number of devotees waited for their turn to offer their prayers at the Sri Krishna Math/Temple.
Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Sode Vadiraja Math participated in religious rituals connected with the jayanti at the temple.
The ‘Muddu Krishna’ competition, where children sport the costumes of god Krishna as a child (Balakrishna), was held at Rajangana. Parents were seen giving tips to their children on how to behave on the stage. On the stage, children tried to imitate the childhood pranks of Krishna with devotional songs being played in the background.
Coordinator of the event Murali Kadekar said nearly 600 children participated in the competitions.
Paintings
On the other side of the Rajangana hall paintings done by schoolchildren depicting various scenes from the life of Krishna were put on display.
The Car Street, where the Sri Krishna Math and the Ashta Maths are located, wore a colourful look as flower sellers sat in two neat rows and sold flowers of different hues. ‘Huli Vesha’ artistes added colour to the festivities with children looking completely enthralled by the dancers.
