Two youths who were stranded in the Hemavati, near Bandihole in K.R. Pet taluk of Mandya district, for more than two hours on Friday were rescued by Fire and Emergency Services personnel.

They were identified as B.M. Akshay (23) and Megharaj (23) from K.R. Pet.

According to the police, the duo visited the picturesque Hemagiri waterfalls on Friday afternoon and later ventured into the Hemavati by neglecting safety aspects.

The water level in the river rose as Irrigation Department officials released water from Hemavati dam in Hassan district. The two could not reach the bank as the current was strong. They, however, climbed a rock and sought help from local residents, the police said. After being alerted, Fire Services personnel rushed to the place and rescued the duo.
