These two prison inmates journeyed to Mysuru from the Bengaluru Central Prison under the escort of two constables to receive degrees in M.A. (Political Science) at the convocation here on Thursday.

Venkatesh (42) and S. Narendra (44), both serving life sentence, cleared the examination with first class. While Venkatesh scored 61.3 per cent, Narendra secured 63.1 per cent.

Venkatesh, a native of Tumakuru district, had discontinued his studies after completing B.A.

“I got an opportunity to continue my education. I used to study for two hours in the night. Fellow inmates used to cooperate,” he said.

Narendra, a native of Bengaluru, said, “I had finished my PU. I took the opportunity of pursuing education under the distance mode.”

Narendra said he wants to study law. “My next plan is to pursue LLB and spread a message against committing crimes.”
