Two cases of rape of minor girls have been reported in the last two days in the adjoining districts of Hassan and Chikmagalur.
A 15-year-old girl with disabilities was raped by a youth in a village in Alur taluk on Wednesday. In the other incident, a 16-year-old girl complained to the Kadur police in Chikmagalur district on Thursday that she was raped by a gang of six two months ago.
The 15-year-old, who has no strength in her legs, has been admitted to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Hassan.
Born into a poor family of daily wage workers, the girl was alone in her home when the 25-year-old accused barged in and raped her after gagging her. The victim told The Hindu that her parents had been to a farm to work. The accused, who is also resident of the same village, fled when her father returned home. The parents filed a complaint with the Alur police on Wednesday evening. Jayalakshmi Sadashiva, Alur police inspector, said search for the accused was on.
The 16-year-old girl was raped by six persons while she was on a visit to Mathighatta in Kadur taluk from her native place. It is said that the accused had threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anybody. She has filed complaint against six persons. The Kadur police took five into custody on Thursday. The accused were all residents of villages in Kadur taluk.
