Shivamogga will be hosting two matches of the Under-19 Cooch Behar trophy cricket tournament to be played from November 22 to 25 and November 29 to December 2, D.R. Nagaraj, Shivamogga zone convener of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), has said.

Both the matches will be held at the cricket stadium of the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering (JNNCE).

In the first match, the Karnataka Under-19 team will take on Delhi and in the second match, Karnataka will play against Saurastra team, he said at a press conference here on Friday.

The JNNCE cricket ground had hosted a Ranji trophy match between Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh teams in 2011 and an unofficial test match between India A and West Indies A teams in 2013.

As the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has been impressed with the facilities at JNNCE grounds, it has allotted two matches of Cooch Behar trophy to the venue, he said.

The Karnataka team is in group D in the current edition of the Cooch Behar trophy. Of the three matches Karnataka has played this year, it has won two and lost one. Karnataka has secured third place in the group, he said.

The ongoing work related to the construction of a cricket stadium by KSCA in Navile locality here would be completed in about six months.

The KSCA has allocated Rs. 12 crore for the project. The practice pitches and other facilities have already come up. The construction of the pavilion was under way. A concrete drainage would be constructed in the periphery of the stadium to discharge rainwater, he said.

Chairman of KSCA, Shivamogga zone, Sukumar Patel, functionaries A.V. Shashidhar and Muralidhar were present.
