Two persons from Bangalore were killed on the spot and five were injured when a van in which they were travelling overturned near Dharwad after hitting a truck on Pune-Bangalore National Highway on Sunday morning.

The dead were identified as Prakash Najundegouda (35), resident of Bapujinagar, Bangalore, and Shekhar Boregouda (28), resident of Byatarayanapura in Bangalore.

The names of the injured were given as Mahesh Channagowda, driver of the vehicle; Chetan Rudrappa, Kartik Kumar Ramesh, Srikanth Srikantaiah and Rajesh Shankargouda, all from Bangalore. They were admitted to SDM Hospital in Dharwad.

They were on their way to Shirdi from Bangalore when the van collided with the truck near Haliyal bridge and rolled down the side of the road.

The Dharwad Rural Police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital.
