Two people were found dead on Wednesday morning near Gollahalli under Rural police station limits in Kolar taluk.

Though the reason for death was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that they were killed in leopard attack.

Police gave the names of the deceased as Venkatappa (60), a farmer and his grandson Mahesh (15). Mahesh was a standard ten student.

The local villagers first sighted the bodies in wee hours of Wednesday and alerted the police as well as forest officials. Both Venkatappa and Mahesh went to the field to feed water at around 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday on a motorbike after supper. However, they did not return to their home and their bodies were found by a eucalyptus grove near the field, Rural Sub-Inspector of Police, K.S. Devendrappa told The Hindu .

The people suspect the attack by the leopards, which are sighted frequently in the area, caused the death of the duo.

However, the officials refused to come to an instant conclusion about the exact cause for the death and decided to wait for the post-mortem report. The bodies have been shifted to the R.L. Jalappa Hospital for post-mortem.

First time

Though a couple of leopards have been sighted in the area every now and then and some sheep were fallen prey, it was the first time that humans have become victims of leopards in the region, people say.

Senior Revenue, Police and Forest Department officials including Deputy Commissioner, K.V. Thrilokchandra and Superintendent of Police, Ajay Hilori visited the spot.
