Two men were seriously injured when a bear attacked them on Tuesday at B.G. Palya in Tumkur.
Hanumesh (35) of Gangavati taluk in Koppal district was seriously injured when the bear attacked him around 3.30 a.m. near a rice mill.
He was shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore. Seebaiah (65), a resident of Shanthinagar, who received head injuries, is undergoing treatment at the district government hospital. He is said to be out of danger.
Then, the bear was not spotted until 6.45 a.m. and it took nine hours for the officers of the Forest and Police departments to capture the bear.
It was a challenge for the police to control the large crowd of people who had gathered near B.G. Palya to see the bear.
The animal also panicked looking at the crowd and climbed atop buildings.
Assistant Conservator of Forests B. Devraj told The Hindu that the bear could have strayed from the Devarayanadurga, Dasarahalli or the Gollahalli forest areas in search of food.
The five-year-old female bear was tranquilised by a five-member team of experts, headed by Arun Sujay, from Bannerghatta National Park.
The team took the animal to Bannerghatta National Park.
Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta, Tahsildar Maruthi Prasanna and Range Forest Officer Narasimhamurthy were among those present.
