Two held on attempt to rape charge

Two persons have been arrested on charge of attempting to rape a mentally ill woman in Konandur village in Tirthahalli taluk on Saturday.

Abdul Rahman and his friend Rahim, who run a scrap shop in the same village, were arrested. According to police, the victim resides with her mother in the same village. She raised an alarm when the duo tried to rape her.

The people in the vicinity, who rushed to the spot, caught them and handed them over to police. A case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the arrested at Konandur police station. The victim, who was in a state of trauma, was admitted to hospital. Superintendent of Police Karthick Reddy visited the spot.

Following the incident, residents of Konandur staged a protest condemning the incident. Ex-MLA Araga Jnanendra who visited the victim at hospital.
