Can Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is abroad, interact with teachers on Children’s Day? This is the question bothering the teachers and officials of the Department of Public Instruction now. Teachers of select schools were earlier informed that the Prime Minister might call some of them to participate in his Children’s Day programme on November 14. However, there has been no further information on the event so far.
Approximately a month ago, the Prime Minister’s Office reportedly collected the contact telephone numbers of headmasters of select schools from the department. H.S. Phaneesh, Deputy Project Coordinator of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan here told The Hindu on Thursday that at a meeting of the district officers held in Bangalore, two schools from each district were to be selected for the Prime Minister’s programme. “We selected a primary school at Holenarsipur and a high school at Hanumanthapura near Hassan for the programme. We have sent details of the schools along with contact numbers of headmistresses and heads of the respective school development and monitoring committee in the prescribed format,” he said.
When The Hindu contacted, Prabhavati, headmistress of the Government Primary School at Holenarsipur said, the officials had told her that the Prime Minister was likely to send either an SMS or give a call on the Children’s Day. “But so far, there is no update on the programme. We don’t know at what time he would call or send an SMS,” she said.
Hasina Banu, headmistress of the Government High School at Hanumanthapura was also not informed about the tomorrow’s event.
Mr. Modi is on a 10-day three-nation tour. There is no information about his proposed interactive session. “It seems, his office will send an SMS to all contact numbers collected from the department. Anyhow, he cannot hold any interactive session now because he is abroad. However, we have not received any official communication in this regard,” Mr. Phanish said.
