Two persons, accused of raping minor girls in two cases, were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Chikmagalur District and Sessions Court on Wednesday.
Mahesh (45), a daily wage worker of the Public Works Department, deputed at the Inspection Bungalow in Chikmagalur town, lured an eight-year-old girl to a secluded place by promising her a doll and raped her on January 5, this year.
District and Sessions Judge B.A. Patil convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs. 50,000 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, life imprisonment and Rs. 2 lakh under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code. Of the penalty, Rs. 2 lakh should be given to the victim, the judge ordered.
In the other case, Prasanna (39) was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in a coffee estate in Mudigeretaluk on January 6, this year.
Mr. Patil pronounced him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs. 2 lakh under Section 376 of IPC (rape), one month’s imprisonment, and imposed Rs. 500 penalty under Section 341 (wrongful restraint). The judge ordered that Rs. 2 lakh be paid to the victim.
