Two flower vendors were killed on the spot and four others injured when their autorickshaw was knocked down by a speeding lorry near K.R. Market early Friday. The six women vendors, as was their routine, packed themselves into the vehicle driven by one Kumar who was paid Rs. 20 daily.

When the three-wheeler reached Prof. Shivashankar Circle on K.R. Road around 4 a.m., a plantain-laden truck rammed it. In the impact, Unnamalai (60), who was sitting next to Mr. Kumar, and Kamlamma (60) died on the spot. The others — Sitamma (60), Maniyamma (35), Mariamma (35) and Kuttamma (40) as well as Mr. Kumar — were taken to Victoria Hospital by the lorry driver, Rajaguru.
