Two people died after they fell into the water while taking pictures on a cell phone at a waterfall near Malaya Marutha Guest House in Charmadi Ghat near Banakal on Monday afternoon. They have been identified as Nagabhushan (38) and Hanumanthappa (34), residents of Turuvanuru in Chitradurga taluk.

The two were on a trip to Dharmashatala along with three other friends in a car. They were on the way back to Chitradurga around 2 p.m. when they stopped their vehicle after they spotted a waterfall in the ghats. While they were taking pictures keeping the waterfall in the background Nagabhushan slipped into the water. Hanumanthappa tried to save him and also fell. Nagabhushan ran a hotel in his native place, while Hanumanthappa worked in a private hospital.

Their friends Basavaraj, Nagesh and Honnesh, who were also on the trip, informed Banakal police. The police reached the spot and recovered the bodies which had flown for a few hundred metres in the water.
