A portion of the house in Gulur in Tumkur taluk collapsed due to the impactof the explosion on Sunday

Two persons were killed and three were injured in a firecracker explosion at Gulur in Tumkur taluk on Sunday.

The police identified the dead as Narsiappa (65), and his wife, Jayamma (60).

Their daughter Sarojamma (40) and workers Rajanna (50) and Siddalingappa (55) were injured in the incident.

Killed on the spot

Narsiappa was killed on the spot and Jayamma died at the district government hospital in Tumkur. The injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Narsiappa had illegally stored firecrackers in his house near the Gulur tank. The materials used for manufacturing crackers were also stored in the house.

The police said the explosion might have occurred while crackers were being manufactured.

The roof of the house was damaged and its mud walls collapsed due to the impact of the explosion.

Nanjundaiah, a resident of the village, said Narsiappa had been in the business of making crackers for the past 15 years.

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tiwari and Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta visited the spot.
