Two dead in Bellary car accident

Two persons were charred to death early on Wednesday when their car caught fire following a head-on collision with a lorry between Joladarashi and Chellagurki, 25 km from Bellary.

According to the police, the Tata Indica vehicle was heading towards Bellary while the goods carrier was on its way to Anantapur. In the impact, the car, after being rammed on the driver side, spun round and caught fire.

Passers by informed the P.D. Halli police, who rushed to the spot along with fire and emergency services. However, by then car was almost burnt, with the persons inside unable to get out probably because the auto locks had been jammed.

The identity of the dead is yet to be established. Police suspect that one of them might be a woman. Forensic experts have been summoned for examination of the bodies. According to the police, the car belonged to one Abdul Rafi of Anantapur.

The lorry involved in the collision was detained at a checkpost near Vidupankal in Anantapur district and the driver, Manohar, arrested.
