Two days after ‘rescue’, leopard dies

July 20, 2016 08:29 am | Updated September 18, 2016 02:52 pm IST - Bengaluru:

A leopard, ‘rescued’ from a snare on the outskirts of the city barely two days ago, was found dead at Bannerghatta National Park on Tuesday.

The leopard was found in Harohalli range of the park. While officials believe that the animal died of dehydration and starvation, the autopsy revealed that it had died of massive haemorrhaging in its heart. The haemorrhaging is attributed to immense stress caused by the ensnaring and the rescue operation.

The leopard had been captured at Kethohalli, off Mysuru Road, on Sunday. It was released directly into BNP, rather than to the treatment centre at Bannerghatta Biological Park.
