People around Ballupete in Sakleshpur were shocked to see a tusker crossing National Highway 75 on Sunday.

The elephant, separated from its herd, crossed the highway, forcing vehicles to stop. It was initially spotted at an estate near Ballupete.

As it proceeded towards the highway, alert locals suggested that travellers on the road stop.

The people of Alur and Sakleshpur taluks have been demanding the State government capture all elephants and relocate them. Recently, Forest Minister Ramanath Rai held a meeting with planters in Sakleshpur regarding the elephant menace. Many are worried as elephants spread in groups have been damaging the crops and public properties and also killing people.
