A 35-year-old tusker was found dead near Solaba village at Halagur Forest Range near Muthathi in the district on Friday.

The wild animal had been suffering from infection, Vasanth Reddy, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Kollegal Range), said on Saturday.

“It had injuries on the back due to tissue formation. The village residents noticed the carcass and alerted the forest officials,” Mr. Reddy said.

However, the DCF could not give the exact reason for its death. “We are awaiting the post-mortem report,” he said.

Forest officials ruled out the possibility of poachers’ involvement in the death of the animal.
