Tumkur-Mysore roadshow may disrupt traffic

February 16, 2014 03:47 am | Updated May 18, 2016 08:33 am IST - Bangalore/Mandya:

Motorists on their way to Mysore in the forenoon on Sunday should gear up to face traffic diversions, slow movement and blockades as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s roadshow will be on from Tumkur to Mysore.

Mr. Gandhi is expected to fly to Tumkur around 10 a.m. from Bangalore and continue by road to Kunigal, Maddur, Mandya and Mysore.

From Mysore, he is expected to take a special flight to New Delhi. The Bangalore city police said while there will not be any traffic restrictions within city limits, vehicular movement may be regulated and controlled at some junctions on the way to the HAL airport.

Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) M.N. Reddy said that inconvenience to commuters will be brought to the minimum.

At Tumkur, Mr. Gandhi is expected to visit Sri Siddaganga Math to meet Shivakumara Swami and inaugurate a women’s convention. He will begin his roadshow from Gulur at around 2 p.m. and will cover Nagavalli, Hebbur in Tumkur taluk, Kunigal Circle, Huliyurdurga, Santhemavathur in Kunigal taluk, and proceed towards Maddur in Mandya district. He is expected to interact with students and party workers at Maddur, Mandya and Srirangapatna.

Mandya’s Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao told The Hindu that the police would close one side of the busy Bangalore-Mysore highway during his visit.

“We will allow vehicles from both directions to ply on one side of the road,” he said.

Besides traffic diversions, the district police will stop movement of trucks and cargo on the highway during the roadshow to minimise inconvenience to the public, he said, adding that elaborate security arrangements have been made ahead of Mr. Gandhi’s visit. Five Deputy Superintendents of Police, 20 Police Inspectors, 50 police sub-inspectors, 60 assistant sub-inspectors, 1,000 head constables and police constables, 20 District Armed Reserve platoons and four Karnataka State Reserve Police platoons will be deployed. The roadshow will pass through the district between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. before reaching Mysore.
