Former Prime Minister and Hassan Lok Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda, here on Friday, said that the trial run of the Bengaluru-Hassan train would be conducted in September this year. With this, the 20-year-old dream of Hassan residents to have railway connectivity to Bengaluru will come true.

Chairing the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting, Mr. Deve Gowda said he had met Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu recently to discuss the project’s progress. “There is a problem with land acquisition for a small stretch. The Minister and his officers have assured me that the problems would be addressed soon and the trial run would be conducted in September this year,” Mr. Gowda said.

People of Hassan district have been waiting for the completion of 172-km line between Hassan and Bengaluru for the last 20 years. As of now, the distance via Arsikere is about 213 kms. The project would benefit people of Hassan, Channarayapanta and other places.
