Transparency needed in funding of elections, says Krishna

S.M. Krishna, former Chief Minister and former Union External Affairs Minister, said on Monday said that it was essential to curb money power in elections in the country.

He was speaking after receiving the ‘Rashtra Ratna’ award presented to him by the Paryaya Pejawar Mutt, here.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt presented the award to him at a felicitation function at Rajangana.

Mr. Krishna said that the country was at a crossroads. It was caught between decline in values and use of money in elections. There should be transparency in funding of elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take steps to check money power in elections, he said. The Pejawar seer said that Mr. Krishna was a calm person who faced problems with intelligence and sincerity. Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt, Prema Krishna, wife of Mr. Krishna, were present.
