Train traffic between Kolar and Bengaluru was afftected for over two hours now, as villagers of Bullahalli, a small village off the Bengaluru–Hyderabad Highway (NH7), blocked a passenger train between Chickaballapur and the city on Friday morning.
The Bullahalli Railway Under Bridge (RUB) that forms the only link from the village to the nearby highway has been waterlogged following the heavy rains that lashed the area on Thursday night. There is more than 3 feet deep water in the RUB standing, cutting the village off from the Highway.
The Bullahalli RUB that was completed in 2014–15, gets water logged even with minimal rains and the villagers allege that the design of the RUB is not scientific and has often left the village cut off without a good road to reach the highway.
The villagers continue to block the passenger train and this has affected the train traffic between Kolar–Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, railway officials said that the Bangalore-Chikballapur passenger train was detained for 30 minutes at Bulahalli by the protesting villagers. No other trains were affected, they said.
