TRAI holds consumer outreach programme in Kolar

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Bangalore, conducted the Telecom Consumer Outreach Programme at T. Chennaiah Rangamandira in Kolar on Tuesday to create awareness among consumers about their rights and privileges. A large number of telecom consumers, representatives of Telecom Service Providers, representatives from

consumer forums and officials /officers of government organisations

participated in the programme.

Sibichen K. Mathew, Regional Head (Karnataka, Kerala, Maharastra & Goa), explained the role and functions of Regional Office, and the initiatives taken for telecom consumer

protection. During the programme, TRAI regulations were highlighted, which inter alia include Mobile Number Portability (MNP), Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC), and Complaint Redressal Mechanism.

During the interaction session the participants gave suggestions and also raised some issues relating to the service provided by different telecom service providers. TRAI instructed the service providers to note the issues and resolve them at the earliest.

Some participants raised questions regarding digitisation, compatibility of set-top boxes etc. There were questions about functioning of call centres.

Lt. Col. Manish Raghav, Joint Advisor, and Latha H.C., Senior Research Officer, also participated in the programme.
