Trade unions here have objected to the allegedly derogatory remarks made against the trade union movement by Superintendent of Police, Tumkur.

State General Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress and General Secretary of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Staff and Workers’ Federation, H. V. Anantha Subbarao, has demanded that the State government arrest the Divisional Controller of KSRTC, who is facing allegations of misbehaving with a woman conductor and to take disciplinary action against the Superintendent of Police for delay in registering the case.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Subbarao alleged that the police refused to register a complaint of alleged misbehaviour against the DC of KSRTC on October 14 and finally registered it on October 25 after the intervention of union leaders.

He said the 29-year-old-former conductor, working in the department on a temporary basis for the past 10 years, was dismissed from service. When she went to the DC’s chamber to ask about her dismissal order on October 14, the DC of KSRTC, Basavaraj, allegedly misbehaved with her and accused her in foul language.

Along with union leaders, she had gone to the Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta to complain that her case was not being registered in the police station.

He alleged that Mr. Gupta insulted the trade unions by using foul language against them and questioned the union leaders about why they had accompanied the conductor.

He said a protest demonstration would be held on October 29 in Tumkur city demanding that the government arrest the DC of KSRTC and disciplinary action be taken against the Superintendent of Police and that he be transferred from the district.

State President of National Federation of Indian Women, Jyothi A. demanded a fair and impartial inquiry into the case. She alleged that Raman Gupta was trying to protect the DC, KSRTC and said that the delay in registering the complaint showed the apathy of police department towards women.

Leaders of district unit of AITUC, Girish V.Chinnappa and others were present. eom
