Trade union strike paralyses Ballari, Koppal

September 02, 2015 06:02 pm | Updated March 28, 2016 02:58 pm IST - BALLARI/KOPPAL:

The strike called by trade unions has paralysed normal life in Ballari and Koppal districts on Wednesday. It passed off peacefully without any untoward incidents being reported.

Activists of several trade unions, under the banner of Joint Committee of Trade Unions, took out processions and formed a human chain at the busy Gadagi Chennappa Circle. This disrupted the movement of traffic and motorists had to take circuitous routes to reach their destinations.

All buses were off the road right from 6 a.m. causing lot of inconvenience to passengers. All shops and business establishments as well as theatres and hotels had downed their shutters. Most of the banks remained closed. Educational institutions had declared a holiday.

At a public meeting, trade union leaders lambasted the NDA government for “pursuing anti-labour policies by bringing in amendments to the labour laws”.

The police had made elaborate bundobust.
