A two-year-old toddler died and her mother suffered serious injuries after the latter set herself ablaze with the baby at Rudrapatna in Arakalgudu taluk on Saturday. The 25-year-old Kavya allegedly attempted suicide after killing her toddler – Disha - as she had differences with her husband Raghu.
Konanuru police told The Hindu that Kavya, native of Rudrapatna, was married to Raghu of Dummi village three years ago and the couple had a baby. They said that Raghu repeatedly harassed Kavya. They claim that when she visited her mother’s house to celebrate Ugadi festival, she decided to end her life.
The police added that while the toddler died, Kavya is being treated at K.R. Hospital in Mysore. Raghu is said to be absconding. The Konanur police have registered the case.
