T. Narsipur Tahsildar B. Shankaraiah was found hanging in his residential quarters on Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary reports, the death of Mr. Shankaraiah (58) has been attributed to suicide, though the exact reason behind the official taking the extreme step is not yet known.

Mr. Shankaraiah had recently been transferred to T. Narsipur from Mandya and his family had not yet shifted with him.

Minister for Public Works and Minister in-charge of the district H.C. Mahadevappa, who represents T. Narsipur in the Legislative Assembly, described the death as “unfortunate” and, in a press statement, sought to convey his condolences to Mr. Shankaraiah’s family and friends.
