TN residents enrolled as voters in Kanakapura by Shivakumar: BJP

April 26, 2014 12:33 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 01:31 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha State president Muniraju has accused Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar of illegally enrolling over 25,000 residents of Tamil Nadu as voters in the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency to provide “undue advantage” for his brother and Congress candidate D.K. Suresh.

Mr. Muniraju, who contested the Lok Sabha election from the Bangalore Rural seat as the BJP candidate, at a press conference here on Thursday, urged the Election Commission to conduct an inquiry into the episode.

He alleged that many natives of Kanakapura, who were residing in Bangalore, too were enrolled as voters in Kanakapura at the behest of Mr. Shivakumar and were “forced” to visit Kanakapura in vehicles arranged by him to vote.

Mr. Muniraju alleged these citizens had voted in the elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike also.
