The forensic sciences laboratory (FSL) report, which could prove conclusive in solving the mystery around the death of a 14-year-old girl in Tirthahalli, has been submitted to the Central Investigations Department, according to sources
The report is about the chemical analysis of the viscera from the girl’s body and could establish the cause of death.
CID officials confirmed that the report has given several leads in the case, but they are awaiting other circumstantial evidence to corroborate its findings. They are still trying to ascertain whether it was suicide or murder, a senior police officer said.
The parents of the victim have alleged that the girl was abducted on October 29 and sexually assaulted by three men who then forced her to drink a bottle of water laced with poison.
The victim died in a hospital on October 31. The incident took a political turn when residents, backed by local groups and BJP leaders, launched violent protests alleging inaction by the police.
This resulted in the State government handing the case to the CID. The police found a ‘suicide note’ from a bag of the victim. While FSL experts confirmed that the handwriting is that of the victm, her parents claimed it is not.
