Time fixed for House Committee on NICE is not enough: Deve Gowda

The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Saturday said that the three-month time frame fixed for the House Committee to look into alleged violations in the the framework agreement by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), which is implementing the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project is “not sufficient”. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra is heading the committee.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Gowda said, “three months might not be enough to investigate the entire gamut of issues related to BMIC, which has a history of 18 years, commencing from the signing of the framework agreement in 1997.”

He clarified that he was not questioning the sanctity of the House Committee, and was only apprehensive about the time frame given. However, he was confident that the committee would submit an “impartial” report without succumbing to pressure from any quarter.

Regarding the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Area Planning Authority’s plan to convert 70 acres of land for road construction, Mr. Gowda said that the Committee had the authority to submit an interim report and ask the government to act against the decision of BMICAPA.
