A national conference on philosophy on the topic “A paradigm of integral human development in the thoughts of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya” will be held in the city from May 21 to May 23. The conference is being sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) and being organised by Belagavi-based Academy of Comparative Philosophy and Religion (ACPR) in association with Rani Channamma University (RCU). The conference will be held at ACPR’s Gurudev Ranade Mandir at Hindawadi in the city.

Announcing the features of the conference here on Thursday, ACPR Hon. Secretary M.B. Zirali said the event marks the 50th death anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, a leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

Member Secretary of ICPR M.P. Singh will deliver the key note address after a formal inaugural function on Saturday.

In the post-noon hours, a technical session on the topic “Metaphysical and Ethical Thoughts in Integral Humanism” chaired by Balaganapati, professor from Delhi University and another session on “Social and Economic Thought of Integral Humanism” chaired by Pannerselvam, ICPR Fellow and professor from Madras University, will be conducted.

The third technical session on “Political ideology of Integral Humanism” chaired by R.I. Ingalalli from Karnatak University followed by an invited talk on “Beyond All Isms-The Philosophy of Integral Humanism” by P.V. Krishna Bhat, former head of Karnataka Knowledge Commission, will be held on Sunday morning. The fourth technical session on “Human Ontology and Value Pursuits” will be chaired by Sheshagiri Rao of University of Mysore, which will be followed by a panel discussion on “Holistic Value Education-Approaches and Challenges” in the afternoon. The fifth session on “Integral Humanism-Science and World Order” followed by an invited talk on “Ekatma Manavatavad Evam Bharatiya Jeevan Shaili” by Deelip Kelkar of Punarutthan Vidhyapeet, Ahmedabad, will be held on Monday morning. This will be followed by a feedback and appraisal by delegates and valedictory .

In all, 29 papers would be submitted , said organising committee member Prof. Sandeep Nair. Asked if the ACPR was promoting RSS or the Bharatiya Jana Sangh ideology through the conference, Mr. Zirali, himself a BJP leader, said the ACPR was not a mouthpiece or spokesperson of any one religion, faith, sect or cult. It believes in “One God, One World and One Humanity,” he said.

Prof. Nair said the doctrine of integral humanism was developed by Deendayal Upadhyaya in 1962, which needs to be taken to both intellectuals and the common man.
