Three Srisailam pilgrims killed in road accident

Three pilgrims were killed and another was seriously injured after they were hit by a lorry on Mantralaya Road on the outskirts of the city on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Sanganagowda (19), a resident of Anwari village in Shahapur taluk, Yadgir district, Ashok (55), a resident of Duduni village in Akkalkot taluk, Solapur district (Maharashtra), and Bhagyashree (38), a resident of Ganga Nagar extension in Kalaburagi district. Mallinath (50) of Solapur, Maharashtra, has sustained serious wounds. While Sanganagowda and Ashok died on the spot, Bhagyashree died at Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences.

It is learnt that the victims were among other pilgrims who had undertaken a padayatra to Srisailam in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, to take part in Ugadi celebrations and were walking in a line by the roadside when the lorry hit them near Lakshmi Temple on Mantralaya road.

The lorry driver fled the scene.
