Three persons belonging to an agricultural family, including two women, died after falling into a pond in Ladwanthi village of Basavakalyan taluk in Bidar district on Sunday evening.

They are Keshav Bainake (40), his wife Satyavati Bainake (35) and his elder sister Lakshmi Wadekar (52), residents of Ladwanthi.

The incident occurred when the three were on their way back to home after harvesting soyabean at their field. Satyavati slipped into the water first and got stuck. Lakshmi climbed down into the pond, apparently to rescue her. Keshav followed to save both and all three disappeared under the water. A rescue team retrieved the bodies on Sunday night. A case has been registered at Manthal police station.
