Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education, expressed confidence that three more new medical colleges would come up at Karwar, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu next year.

Mr. Patil, who visited the newly-established Koppal Institute of Medical Science (KopIMS) to review its functioning, made the statement before presspersons here on Wednesday. He interacted with officials and students earlier.

To help meritorious students

“Of the six new medical colleges proposed by the State government, three will be set up in Koppal, Gadag and Kalaburagi, adding 450 more seats. The establishment of these colleges would help meritorious students, especially those from a poor economic background to get seats, besides providing quality medical care to the needy in the districts,” he said.

Mr. Patil said that teaching staff had been recruited to KopIMS.

The process of recruiting other staff and providing facilities at the district hospital would be taken up in a phased manner, he told presspersons here.
