Allocation promised for Tuprihalla rivulet project

Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai has hinted that north Karnataka will get a good deal in the budget to be present by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on February 8.

Delivering the Republic Day message here on Saturday, Mr. Bommai said the budget would have several pro-people measures, with focus on development of the northern regions of the State.

Allocation would be made for a project to utilise Tuprihalla rivulet waters to meet the drinking water needs of Dharwad, Hubli and Navalgund taluks, and irrigation requirements of the district, he said.

Stressing the need for “physical” as well as “spiritual” growth in the country, Mr. Bommai said the importance given by the State to the birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda was part of its efforts to introduce his ideals to the younger generation.

The Minister distributed the district-level Sarvottama Seva Awards instituted by the State government for the best-performing senior government officials. Winners included P.S. Hiremath, Senior Assistant Director, Information; S.B. Hosmani, Head, Department of Agriculture Business, University of Agricultural Sciences; Kavita A.S., headquarter assistant, Department of Horticulture; district civil hospital officer Ashok Betadur and Karnataka State Finance Corporation officer Ashok M.
